The Beginnings
Chillicothe Bible Church was established in 1962 by a group of businessmen from Central Illinois who felt the need for fellowship in a Bible believing church. After much prayer and discussion, they were led to purchase a building and parsonage at Fourth and Pine streets from the Plymouth Congregational Church. The first service was held there on September 2, 1962 with 48 people present.
In 1973, the congregation became affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America. That move gave new dimensions for fellowship and a much greater outreach; so much so that the old building was soon outgrown. Plans were started to build a larger place to worship. After much deliberation, the former North Elementary school building became available. Many hours of hard work as well as sacrificial giving made it possible for the building to be remodeled. On November 10, 1985, the first service was held in our current facilities at 434 W Moffitt Street.
Our Future
Throughout our 60 year history, we have seen God be faithful to us in ministry to our community and to people around the world as we have faithfully proclaimed His Word. We pray that God will continue to build us, by the power of the Holy Spirit, into a people who glorify the Father through our love for one another, our walk with Christ, our worship of Christ, our witness about Christ, and our work for Christ in Central Illinois and around the world.
